Burgas Airport to the City, Sunny Beach & Nessebar (2026)

Burgas Airport sits at Sarafovo, about 10 km northeast of Burgas — which means it's actually closer to the northern resorts than to the city it's named after. That geography shapes everything about getting away from it.

Most people landing here aren't going to Burgas at all. They're heading for Sunny Beach, Nessebar or Sozopol, and the good news is that public transport handles all of it cheaply.

🚌 Into Burgas: Bus 15

If the city itself is your destination:

• Line 15 (and 15A) runs from the airport to Burgas South Bus Station
• Journey time: about 25–30 minutes
• Frequency: roughly every 30 minutes
• Fare: €0.80 bought on board from the driver

Burgas South Bus Station is the city's main transport hub, so it's also where you'd change for onward buses to the southern resorts.

🎟️ Slightly cheaper option: Burgas has an e-wallet ticket system where a transfer ticket valid for 45 minutes costs around €0.66. For a single airport run it's rarely worth setting up, but it's there if you're staying a while.

🏖️ Straight to Sunny Beach or Nessebar — Skip the City

This is the part most guides get wrong, and it saves real time.

You do not need to go into Burgas first. Line 10, which runs the Burgas – Nessebar – Sunny Beach corridor, passes the airport. Pick it up at Sarafovo and ride it straight up the coast.

• To Nessebar: a stop on the route, before Sunny Beach
• To Sunny Beach: roughly 35–45 minutes from Sarafovo
• Frequency: frequent in summer, reduced out of season

⚠️ Watch the line number. Line 22 covers the same Burgas–Sunny Beach corridor but runs inland via Kableshkovo and does not stop at the airport. If you're at Sarafovo, you want line 10.

Going into Burgas South Bus Station first and changing there also works, and is the fallback if you land outside line 10's running hours — but it adds the better part of an hour.

🌊 Heading South Instead: Sozopol and Beyond

The southern resorts — Sozopol, Primorsko, Kiten, Tsarevo — are a different direction, and there's no way to avoid Burgas.

Take bus 15 to Burgas South Bus Station, then a regional bus or minibus south. Sozopol is around 40 minutes from Burgas and buses are frequent in summer.

🚕 Taxis and Transfers

A taxi into Burgas runs roughly €10–15. To Sunny Beach or Sozopol, expect considerably more, and prices climb in peak summer.

The standard precautions:

• Use the official taxi rank outside the terminal.
• Don't accept a ride from anyone who approaches you in arrivals.
• Check the per-kilometre rate displayed on the car window before getting in.
• Confirm the meter is running.

If you've booked a package holiday, a resort transfer coach is usually included — check your booking before paying for anything else, since these are often already arranged.

🔁 Getting Back to the Airport

Worth planning properly, because Burgas Airport is heavily seasonal and the buses reflect that.

• Bus 15 runs the reverse route from Burgas South Bus Station to the airport.
• From Sunny Beach or Nessebar, catch line 10 back down the coast — it passes the airport, so you don't need to route through the city.
• Allow extra time in July and August. The coast road between Sunny Beach and Burgas is genuinely slow in peak season. Budget 90 minutes rather than the 35–45 the timetable suggests.
• Early flights are the problem. Budget carriers love a 06:00 departure, and no bus runs then. Book a taxi the night before, or use your hotel's transfer desk.

🌦️ Burgas Is a Summer Airport

More so than Varna, Burgas lives and dies by the season. Between roughly November and April:

• Flight schedules collapse — many routes are summer-only charters that simply don't operate.
• Resort buses run far less often, and some seasonal services stop entirely.
• Sunny Beach effectively shuts, with most hotels, bars and restaurants closed.

If you're travelling out of season, Burgas city itself stays open and pleasant — but check that your resort is actually operating before booking, and don't assume line 10 runs at summer frequency.

✈️ Burgas or Varna? Book the Right One

Bulgaria's two coastal airports split the Black Sea between them:

• Burgas (BOJ) → the southern coast: Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Sozopol, Primorsko
• Varna (VAR) → the northern coast: Golden Sands, Sts. Constantine and Helena, Albena, Balchik
