Where to Go to the Beach Around Burgas: From Urban Glamour to Nearby Campsites

Published: 1 June 2026·7 min read

When we think of Burgas, our minds often wander to the Sea Garden, the romantic Bridge, and peaceful strolls down Bogoridi Street. The truth, however, is that the city and its immediate surroundings hide some of the most diverse and exciting sunbathing spots along the entire Black Sea coast. Here, you can choose between a chic city beach with trendy bars, a wild adventure surrounded by nature, or the laid-back, care-free (aylyak) atmosphere of the nearby campsites.

If you are planning your summer escape and wondering where to go to the beach around Burgas, here is a personal guide to the best locations within a maximum radius of 20–30 minutes by car.

Paid Zones, Free Zones, and Bars: What to Expect?

One of the best things about the beaches in the Burgas Bay is the balance. You won't find overdevelopment here, and the stretches of sand are so wide that there is plenty of room for everyone.

All main urban and suburban beaches are divided into paid zones (with umbrellas and sunbeds) and free zones (where you can freely set up your own umbrella and towel). The free zones are massive and well-maintained, often taking up more than half of the beach coastline.

When it comes to beachside dining and nightlife, Burgas offers fantastic seaside culinary options. Right on the sand, you will find:

  • Cozy local beach shacks (kapancheta) serving fresh fried sprat (tsatsa), french fries, and cold beer.
  • Modern beach bars, which offer cool shade, refreshing frappes, and cocktails during the day, and transform into open-air party venues with DJs or live music at night.

The Urban Beaches of Burgas: Convenience and Sea Breeze at Your Fingertips

If you are staying in the city or simply don't feel like driving, Burgas has plenty to surprise you. The city beaches are massive, exceptionally well-kept, and offer everything you need for a perfect day under the sun.

The Burgas beach

Burgas Central Beach

Located right beneath the beautiful Sea Garden, Central Beach is a true classic. The first thing that will catch your eye here is the color of the sand. In some areas, it is quite dark, almost black—this is due to a high content of magnetite, which warms up quickly in the sun and is known for its healing properties.

The beach features a paid zone, but the free section is enormous. Its close proximity to city cafes and restaurants makes it incredibly convenient.

Burgas North Beach

If you are looking for a more dynamic vibe and excellent bars, Burgas North Beach is your go-to spot. It is a gathering point for water sports enthusiasts—here, you can frequently spot kitesurfers and windsurfers catching the wind. The coastline is dotted with beach volleyball and tennis courts. Some of the bars here (like the iconic Bàvaro) even feature newly renovated playgrounds right on the sand, allowing you to sip a cocktail while your kids play safely. Another great advantage is the huge free parking lot nearby (located just before the paid parking zone starts), which is a massive plus for car travelers.

👶 Top Locations for Families with Toddlers and Young Children

If you are traveling with a little passenger, water safety and peace of mind come first. Here are the locations in the region that come most highly recommended for parents:

Kraimorie Beach (The Best Choice for Toddlers)

Located south of Burgas, this beach is nestled in a beautiful, sheltered bay. This is arguably the safest beach in the area for small children. The water here is exceptionally shallow—you have to walk dozens of meters out just for it to reach your waist. Large waves and sudden drop-offs are virtually non-existent, and the sand is fine and golden. The newly renovated pedestrian promenade and small marina are ideal for a stroller walk after a day at the beach. It offers both a paid zone with umbrellas and plenty of space for free-zone fans.

Sarafovo Beach

Situated in the northern neighborhood of the city (close to the airport), the southern beach of this quarter is very wide, clean, and peaceful. The water is also shallow and warm, and the promenade features great family-friendly restaurants and ice cream spots, making the logistics of traveling with children incredibly easy.

The Alternative Beach: Mud, Lye, and Relaxation at the Saltworks

Looking for something different from the standard lounging on a sunbed? Head north from North Beach toward the Burgas Saltworks.

The beach here is entirely a free zone, boasting a wilder look and pitch-black sand. However, the real attraction lies in the lye and healing mud pools located just meters from the sea. The experience is incredible: you dip into the pink waters of the lye (where you float effortlessly on the surface due to the high salinity), then coat yourself in the black healing mud, wait for it to dry in the sun, and rinse off directly in the waves of the Black Sea. It is the largest free open-air spa center in Bulgaria and a favorite spot for both locals and tourists.

⚠️ Note: This spot is not recommended for very young children, as the salty lye can sting their delicate skin.

Heading South: Legendary Campsites and the Blue Horizon

Just a 20–25 minute drive south of Burgas, the landscape begins to shift, leading us to places where the ultimate sense of summer freedom is celebrated.

Vromos Beach and Chernomorets

The central beach of the small town of Chernomorets is cozy, charming, and also highly suitable for children due to its calm waters. If you are looking for a more spacious setting, Vromos Bay (located just before the town) offers shallow, warm water, and you will find campsites nearby.

⚠️ Warning: Despite the available campsites, visiting Vromos Beach is strongly discouraged. The area is contaminated with radioactive waste from the former "Rosen" copper mine, so staying or swimming there poses a serious health risk.

Camping Gradina and Camping Zlatna Ribka

These are perhaps the most famous spots for beach getaways on the Black Sea among fans of camping culture and beautiful coastlines. The stretch of sand connecting Chernomorets and Sozopol is several kilometers long and boasts soft, golden sand.

The beach at Camping Gradina

  • Camping Gradina is home to some of the trendiest beach bars in Bulgaria. Here, the non-stop summer vibe, great music, and kite schools draw in a vibrant, younger crowd. The paid zones are luxurious (featuring beach cabanas and beanbags), but the space for free beachgoers right behind them is vast.
  • Camping Zlatna Ribka: Located in the very same bay, this spot is much quieter. Due to its unique position, the sea here is almost always as smooth as glass with no waves at all. It is an exceptional spot for families who want their kids to play in calm waters while adults enjoy the inspiring view of the Old Town of Sozopol.

Practical Tips for Your Beach Adventure

To make your beach day absolutely flawless, keep a few things in mind:

  1. Parking: Central Beach is directly adjacent to the city's Blue and Green parking zones. If you are visiting on a summer weekend, the Green Zone (around the Sea Garden) is paid from 11:00 to 20:00, so use the local mobile app for hassle-free payment.
  2. Sports: If you love windsurfing or kitesurfing, North Beach and Camping Gradina are your top locations.
  3. Best Time to Visit: If you want to experience the Saltworks without the crowds, head there early in the morning (before 09:00) or at dusk—the sun is less intense then, and the sunsets over Lake Atanasovsko are purely magical.

The Burgas region proves that you don't have to choose between urban conveniences, safety for your children, and a vibrant bar scene. Everything is brought together in one place, and the choice of where to go to the beach around Burgas depends entirely on your mood today!
