The Krushuna Waterfalls (known also as the Krushuna Travertine Cascade) stand as one of the most magical, lush, and highly captivating natural wonders in Bulgaria. Located on the northern slopes of the karst Devetashko Plateau in the Middle Pre-Balkan region, they are situated just 1 km south of the scenic village of Krushuna, 8 km south of the town of Letnitsa, and roughly 15 km east of the legendary Devetashka Cave. This fairtale-like water cascade is highly unique, featuring a long, stepped travertine (tufa) formation where individual mineral terraces and thresholds shape dozens of smaller and larger waterfalls carrying crystal-clear turquoise waters. The cascade has been naturally carved along the course of the Proynovska River, which springs directly from the dark underground chambers of the nearby Krushuna Cave. The primary, highest, and most iconic waterfall in the series is the 15-meter-high "Praskaloto," which, together with the subsequent unnamed smaller cascades flowing below it, forms the collective phenomenon known as the Krushuna Waterfalls. As the entire Devetashko Plateau is exceptionally rich in karst formations, the immediate area surrounding the waterfalls shelters several other wild caves, including "Maarata," "Urushka Maara," and the "Boninska" Cave. To accommodate thousands of yearly visitors, a well-developed and highly accessible eco-trail has been constructed. The path begins about half a kilometer south of Krushuna village, where convenient parking options are available. The trail winds gently upstream, crossing numerous wooden bridges that offer hikers spectacular close-up views of the cascades from different vantage points, eventually leading to the very foot of the "Praskaloto" fall and the cave entrance. Beyond its outstanding natural beauty, the site carries a deep spiritual history — during the 13th and 14th centuries, this area housed the medieval Krushuna Rock Monastery of Hesychast monks, a heritage still visible today through the ancient cells and quiet niches carved high into the sheer cliffs.
