The Petko Rachov Slaveykov House Museum in Veliko Tarnovo is the birth house of the poet and National Revival figure. It is one of three houses where Slaveykov lived that are now museums. It is a site of the Regional History Museum.
The house holds a permanent documentary exhibition on Petko Slaveykov’s life and work.
In front of it stands a full-figure bronze statue of Slaveykov, seated, by the sculptor Blagoy Iliev, unveiled in 1968. On the wall are a relief portrait and a memorial plaque of 17 November 1927, for the centenary of his birth.
Petko Slaveykov was born in Tarnovo on 17 November 1827. He spent only the first two years of his life in the house before the family moved to Tryavna. His parents were tenants and lived in the cellar. The first exhibition was arranged on 1 July 1955, 60 years after his death. In 1971 the house was rebuilt and restored and became a site of the museum.
