Located in the birthplace of the legendary Bulgarian master builder Nikola Fichev (popularly known as Kolyu Ficheto), the Kolyu Ficheto Museum in Dryanovo stands as a tribute to the life, genius, and architectural heritage of the nation's most celebrated master builder. Opened in 1969 to mark the 170th anniversary of his birth, the museum is an integral part of the Dryanovo Historical Museum complex. The museum complex is situated at the edge of the historic Gilei Neighborhood, which retains its charming 1840s Revival-era atmosphere. Life & Architectural Legacy Born in Dryanovo in 1800, Kolyu Ficheto learned carpentry and stonemasonry from a young age, rising to become the most prominent architect and engineer of the 19th-century Bulgarian National Revival. The museum's collection provides a comprehensive look at his extraordinary lifetime accomplishments: - Authentic Tools & Documents: On display are authentic 19th-century masonry and woodworking tools, building permits, original architectural sketches, and woodcarving samples. - Scale Models: The highlight of the museum features detailed scale models and archival photographs of his most famous masterpieces—including the iconic Byala Bridge over the Yantra River, the Covered Bridge in Lovech, the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Svishtov, and the churches of St. Nicholas and Sts. Constantine and Helena in Veliko Tarnovo. - Masterpieces in Dryanovo: The museum showcases his surviving works in his hometown, including the majestic St. Nicholas Church (1851), the stone bridge over the Dryanovska River, and the iconic Ikonomov House.
