The Museum of Busintsi Ceramics is in the village of Busintsi, Tran municipality, Pernik province, near the Serbian border. It presents one of the oldest pottery schools in Bulgaria, from the 17th century to today. It opened in 1982 on the initiative of the master potter Petar Gigov.
The school is known for its figural decoration and its greens, yellows and reds.
In the 19th century Busintsi had over 300 workshops and about 1,500 potters, whose wares reached Constantinople and Egypt. Kostadin Gigov won first prize at the Plovdiv fair of 1892. His son Petar Gigov (1915–1991) has works in the British Museum, the Louvre and the Musée de l'Homme in Paris. The building dates from 1978–1983.
A visit takes about an hour. Opposite the museum is the village's last working pottery, the Gigov family home. Opening hours and tickets are not published, so call ahead.
