Vazov’s Corner is a small museum corner in the Cherepish Monastery of the Dormition in the Iskar Gorge, devoted to Ivan Vazov’s stays at the monastery.

What to see

The corner gathers photographs, old editions of Vazov’s works and mementoes. Nearby is "Vazov’s Terrace" — next to the building where the monks sleep is an inscription: "the favourite terrace of the patriarch of Bulgarian literature, Ivan Vazov". According to legend, he drank his coffee there, listening to the Iskar River.

History

The idea for Vazov’s Corner and Vazov’s Terrace came from the monks’ stories of Vazov’s stays and his walks in the area. The monastery appears in his story "A Bulgarian Woman". The monastery itself was founded under Tsar Ivan Shishman and rebuilt in 1660.

Visiting

The corner is inside the monastery complex; quite steep steps lead to the ossuary and the church.

Combine with: the monastery church and the ossuary, which holds bones of members of Botev’s band.

Nearby

  • Cherepish Monastery — about 20 m.
  • The Prosechen Kamik eco-trail — about 550 m.
  • The Ritlite rock walls — about 1.5 km.
