Skakavets (2,706 m) is the northernmost of the Skakavtsite peaks on the Skakavitsa ridge in Central Rila, inside the Central Rila Reserve. Malak, Sreden and Golyam Skakavets follow to the south along the ridge, and Musala is about 5 km to the east.
Despite the similar name, this is not the Skakavitsa waterfall, which is in Northwest Rila below Kabul peak. Skakavets is a high summit with no marked path.
One described trip reached the group from the Tiha Rila area via Kobilino branishte on a barely visible path, then along cairns. There is no water on the ridge.

Late spring through early autumn (May–September) is best for Skakavets, when trails are clear of snow and weather is most stable. Higher peaks may hold snow into June and see fresh snow as early as October. Winter visits are for experienced mountaineers with proper gear.

Hiking boots, layered clothing, water (1.5–2 L per person), sun protection, and a windproof jacket — mountain weather changes quickly. For longer routes also bring a map (paper or offline), a head torch, and emergency rations. Tell someone your planned route and expected return time.
