The Sevlievo History Museum is housed in the Hadzhistoyanovo School at 12 Gen. Skobelev Street. The museum is No. 20a among the 100 National Tourist Sites.
The permanent exhibitions are "Archaeology" and "The Sevlievo Region in the National Revival". They tell the story of the town and its surroundings from the Neolithic to modern times.
The building itself is a landmark of education: it was one of the first secular schools in the Bulgarian lands.
The school was built in 1844 by the prominent local Hadzhi Stoyan Nikolov, after whom it is named. Until the Liberation it was the only secular school in the Sevlievo region, and its first teacher was Petko R. Slaveykov. It produced teachers, priests and leaders of the April Uprising in central northern Bulgaria, eight of whom were hanged on Sevlievo’s square.
The museum was founded in 1954; its first exhibition was archaeological. Since the mid-20th century the Hadzhistoyanovo School has been its main building.
