Rezovo

Rezovo is an iconic coastal village situated in Southeastern Bulgaria, positioned within the administrative boundaries of the Tsarevo Municipality, Burgas Province. It occupies an exceptional and strategic geographical position, operating as the absolute southernmost settlement along the entire Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Settled at the precise alignment where the Strandzha Mountain meets the sea, Rezovo attracts travelers with its pristine wilderness, frontier mystique, and rich cultural-historical heritage. Cultural and Historical Landmarks The region surrounding the village safeguards material remnants of a developed medieval defensive infrastructure. Positioned at a distance of 3 kilometers north of the outskirts of Rezovo is Cape Kastrich. At the summit of this rocky peninsula, archaeological surveys unearthed and conserved the remnants of a small medieval fortress, displaying a regular rectangular layout measuring 20 by 30 meters. Historians and medievalists agree that this defensive structure represents the famous maritime fortress of Kastrosion, documented across ancient charts and chronicles, which guarded the coastal waters and trade routes leading toward Constantinople. Environmental Assets and Protected Nature Zones Rezovo is enveloped by unique and strictly monitored natural habitats that provide critical sanctuary to dozens of rare biological species: - Silistar Protected Area: Extending north from the village is the celebrated Silistar Protected Area, highly recognized as one of the most beautiful and wild beaches in the country. The territory is distinguished by an exceptionally rich flora and fauna profile. Within the parameters of the sandy dunes of Silistar, visitors can observe a fully preserved and legally protected native habitat of the exquisite and delicate sand lily. - The Rezovska River Valley: Positioning immediate to the south of the village is the scenic valley of the Rezovska River. Along the course of the riverbed, environmental forces have sculpted beautiful, dramatic rock formations, and the water flow itself features numerous turbulent rapids that smoothly transition into quiet, deep, and calm river stretches in the lowlands. The marine bay at the river's mouth operates as a vital annual wintering ground for large flocks of diverse migratory waterfowl. Within the clear waters of the river and its adjacent marine area, travelers enjoy the unique opportunity to catch glimpses of hunting individuals of the Eurasian otter. The official and strictly monitored state frontier dividing the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Turkey tracks directly along the flow of the Rezovska River, establishing the coastline of Rezovo as the southernmost external land border of the European Union on the Black Sea.
