Mount Persenk (2,075 m) is one of the most prominent and scenic peaks in the Central Rhodopes. Located near the famous "Wonderful Bridges" natural phenomenon, it offers hikers a perfect mix of dense coniferous forests, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking vistas that stretch across the vast mountain ranges of southern Bulgaria. Logistics and Starting Point The trail begins at the Skalni Mostove (Rock Bridges) Hut at 1,625 meters altitude. - Getting there: Driving on the main road from Asenovgrad to Smolyan, shortly after the village of Hvoyna, turn right following the signs for Zabardo and The Wonderful Bridges. After 9 km, take another right turn and continue for 8.5 km to reach the hut. - Parking: Safe parking is available directly in front of the hut. Trail Description The hike covers approximately 3.6 km with a total elevation gain of over 450 meters. It usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit. - The Ascent: Start southwest following the red markers towards Persenk Hut. The trail begins with a steeper section before leveling out. After about an hour, you will reach a wide meadow with several trail junctions. - The Summit: At the meadow, turn right towards the northeast, following the "Persenk Ultra" sign and the red markings. A final 30-minute walk leads to the metal structure marking the peak. - The View: The summit provides an expansive panoramic view over the Rhodopes, allowing you to see numerous surrounding peaks on clear days. Flora, Fauna, and Nearby Attractions The route is less crowded, making it a peaceful weekend getaway.
