Situated within the verdant grounds of Skobelev Park-Museum in the city of Pleven, the Pleven Epopee 1877 Panorama is one of the most magnificent and iconic military history art museums in Southeastern Europe. Built directly adjacent to the historic Kovanlak redoubt—the site of the fiercest clashes during the Third Assault of the Siege of Pleven—the monument was inaugurated on December 10, 1977, marking the centennial of the city's liberation.
Featured on the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria registry (Site No. 41), the Panorama remains a major national heritage landmark, having drawn over 2.5 million visitors in its first three years alone.
Designed by Bulgarian architects Ivo Petrov and Plamena Tsacheva, the building's striking cylindrical structure is steeped in symbolism:
The master artistic execution was directed by Nikolay Ovechkin of the M. Grekov Studio in Moscow, leading a team of 13 Russian and Bulgarian master painters.
