Panichishte is a popular mountain resort in Southern Bulgaria, located within the scenic Sapareva Banya Municipality, Kyustendil Region. Nestled among exceptionally beautiful, ancient coniferous forests in the Northwestern Rila Mountains, this resort village is situated about 10 km southeast of the town of Sapareva Banya. The destination offers excellent year-round recreation conditions, featuring numerous holiday bases, cozy mountain chalets, modern spa hotels, and health resorts. During the winter season, winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy a well-maintained ski slope equipped with a functional ski tow. The area also hosts a unique natural landmark — Suhoto Ezero (The Dry Lake), which is the lowest-lying glacial lake in the entire Rila range. The resort is widely renowned as one of the most vital gateways for hiking and trekking in the mountains. It serves as the starting point for various popular walking routes leading toward the chalets Pionerska, Lovna, Skakavitsa, Vada, and Rilski Ezera, as well as the iconic Seven Rila Lakes. A major convenience for visitors is the modern chairlift, which officially opened in 2009. The lift travels from Pionerska Hut (1,580 m above sea level) up to Rilski Ezera Hut (2,100 m above sea level) in just 16 minutes. Spanning a length of 2.2 km and featuring a capacity of 700 tourists per hour, the chairlift helps hikers bypass the steepest and most demanding segment of the trail to the lakes, making Panichishte the perfect starting base for seasoned adventurers and families alike.
