Balabana (1,728 m) is a peak on the northern side of Vitosha, above the Zlatnite mostove area. At its foot, in the Balabana locality of the same name, stands hut Septemvri (1,495 m).
About 800 m to the southeast is Chernata skala, and to the east are Ushite and Kamen del. The slopes around the summit are dotted with huts and lodges: Septemvri, Momina skala, Sredets, Boeritsa, Planinarska pesen and others are all within an hour's walk.
The easiest approach is from Zlatnite mostove: hut Septemvri is about half an hour away, and waymarked paths continue from there towards the summit and Cherni vrah. The hut is about 3 hours on foot from Cherni vrah.

Late spring through early autumn (May–September) is best for Balabana, when trails are clear of snow and weather is most stable. Higher peaks may hold snow into June and see fresh snow as early as October. Winter visits are for experienced mountaineers with proper gear.
