The Rayska Gledka eco trail is in the Eastern Rhodopes above the Kardzhali reservoir, near the villages of Ilinitsa and Padartsi, about 12 km north-west of Kardzhali. It is waymarked in yellow and is about 3.8 km long.
The path runs over the hills above the reservoir. About 1.3 km from it is the Utroba cave sanctuary, reached by a separate signposted path.
The name (“Paradise View”) comes from the view over the Kardzhali reservoir. Utroba, at Tangardak Kaya near Ilinitsa, is a natural cleft in the rock further carved by hand: 3 m high, 2.5 m wide and about 22 m deep, with a carved altar at the back. Around noon, for a few minutes, a ray of sunlight enters through a crack in the roof. Its date is uncertain — anywhere from the Copper Age to the Bronze Age.
An easy to moderate walk on paths. Carry water.
Ilinitsa and Padartsi are in Kardzhali municipality, about 12 km north-west of the town.
