The route leads from the village of Novakovo to Sini Vrah hut in the Rhodopes, above Asenovgrad. It is marked in blue, the path is about 9.4 km, and the climb from about 500 m to 1,050 m takes about 2 hours.
Novakovo is on the main Plovdiv – Asenovgrad – Kardzhali road, 22 km from Asenovgrad and 42 km from Plovdiv. A sign on the right at the village entrance points to the hut.
Sources do not name a car park in the village. To shorten the walk you can drive to the hut, 10 km of asphalt with the first half badly broken, and leave the car at its car park.
The path climbs about 550 m to the Katranishte area, where the hut stands. Well-marked paths around it give views over the Rhodopes and the Thracian plain.
Moderate: a long, steady climb with no technical sections. For children used to walking a few hours.
Spring to autumn. In winter, check the road and the hut first.
A solid three-storey building at 1,050 m with 116 beds, central heating and a kitchen. Whether it still takes overnight guests is unclear, so call before you go and bring food and water.
The same way. From the hut: Sini Vrah peak (1,537 m), about 2 hours; the Belintash rock sanctuary, about 3 hours; Martsiganitsa hut, about 7:30 hours.
