Kalin (2,669 m) is a peak in north-western Rila, also known as Golyam Kalin. Next to it is the lower Malak Kalin (2,664 m); bg.wikipedia gives Golyam Kalin as 2,668 m.
The two Kalin peaks rise south-east of Ivan Vazov hut and above the Kalin reservoir of the Rila hydropower cascade. The peaks Varla and Damga (Vazov) are nearby, and to the west is the Vincheto shelter, an old transformer station above the reservoir.
The peak is usually climbed from Ivan Vazov hut: green and yellow waymarks lead along the Papazdere river towards Vincheto, and shortly before it a blue-marked path branches left to Malak Kalin. From Malak Kalin, over the saddle to Golyam Kalin takes 30–40 minutes. Other summer starting points are the Rila Monastery, Zeleni Preslap (Panichishte) and Pionerska hut. In winter this route has no winter waymarking.
Ivan Vazov hut is reached on foot, from Panichishte via Pionerska hut or via the Seven Lakes and Razdela. A dirt road leads to the Kalin reservoir; from the reservoir to the summit is about an hour on foot.

Hiking boots, layered clothing, water (1.5–2 L per person), sun protection, and a windproof jacket — mountain weather changes quickly. For longer routes also bring a map (paper or offline), a head torch, and emergency rations. Tell someone your planned route and expected return time.
