Tyulenovata Cave (the Seal Cave) is a sea cave in the cliffs of the northern Black Sea coast, about a kilometre north-east of Tyulenovo village in Shabla Municipality, Dobrich Province. It is named after the Mediterranean monk seal, which once used it as a den. Remains of a monk seal were found inside in 1878, and the species is now extremely rare on the Bulgarian coast.
The cave opens onto the sea, and the practical way in is by water – kayak, SUP or boat – and only when the sea is calm. In waves it cannot be reached and is not safe. There is no fee, no guard and no maintained access, so you visit at your own risk.
The cliffs between Tyulenovo and Kamen Bryag are among the most dramatic on the Bulgarian coast, with arches, small coves and rock-cut monasteries south of the village. Kamen Bryag and the Yailata reserve are a short drive away.
