Mechi baba (1,438 m) is one of the highest northern peaks of the Ponor mountain in the Western Balkan, in the area of the village of Zanoge and hut Proboynitsa.
The summit is grassy and the northeast slopes are steep and wooded. Hut Proboynitsa is about 1.7 km to the north, in the valley of the river of the same name. From the top you see the other Ponor peaks, the Proboynitsa valley and the Koznitsa ridge, and to the southeast Golema planina and Rzhana.
A yellow-waymarked route between hut Proboynitsa and Zanoge passes east of the peak and continues to Zasele and the Vazov eco-trail. The climb itself has no waymarks or signs; the usual start is Zanoge, on foot or by mountain bike. A longer variant begins at Lakatnik station. The meadows around the summit are working pasture, so expect herds and sheepdogs.

Late spring through early autumn (May–September) is best for Mechi Baba, when trails are clear of snow and weather is most stable. Higher peaks may hold snow into June and see fresh snow as early as October. Winter visits are for experienced mountaineers with proper gear.
