Kartala (2,035 m), shown on some maps as Kartal, is a peak in the Zlatitsa–Teteven mountain, about 2.1 km north-east of Paskal; bg.wikipedia gives 2,034 m.
The peak stands on the main ridge of the Central Balkan, right next to the Boatin biosphere reserve in Central Balkan National Park. About 3.5 km east along the ridge is Tetevenska Baba.
About 200 m south of Kartala runs the Kom – Emine route, the longest waymarked footpath in Bulgaria. A plaque on the summit marks the meeting of the bands of Panayot Hitov and Filip Totyu on 20 July 1867.
The peak is reached along the Kom – Emine ridge route; the nearest starting points are Paskal hut and the town of Pirdop, about 10 km to the south.

Hiking boots, layered clothing, water (1.5–2 L per person), sun protection, and a windproof jacket — mountain weather changes quickly. For longer routes also bring a map (paper or offline), a head torch, and emergency rations. Tell someone your planned route and expected return time.
