Route Description The trek begins at the western entrance of the iconic Memorial Church "Birth of Christ" (known as the Golden Church) in the town of Shipka. The trail is excellently marked and ascends in a zigzag pattern with a pleasant elevation gain. Towards the Ridge: After about 30 minutes, you reach a well-maintained shelter. The path continues alongside the main road; at the next two junctions, turn left. After crossing the asphalt road twice, you will arrive at a distinctive concrete cube where the forest ends. Orlovo Gnezdo Peak: From here, the route continues along the open ridge. Orlovo Gnezdo Peak is bypassed from the east, and at its foot, you can find a small monument and a military cemetery. Connection with Kom-Emine: To reach the Kopatsite saddle, follow the legendary Kom-Emine trail. The marking starts from the "Steel Battery" (the small Russian monument with cannons) located below Shipka Peak. Final Destination: The Kopatsite saddle is a flat and spacious meadow with bungalows. From here, a brand-new yellow marking leads back to the town of Shipka, passing by Temenuga Hut, which is open for tourists even during winter.
