Aladzha Monastery is the most famous medieval cave monastery on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Inhabited by hermit monks during the 13th and 14th centuries, this impressive spiritual site is carved into a 40-meter-high limestone cliff within the Golden Sands Nature Park. Unique Architecture and Heritage The monastery is structured on two distinct levels, offering a fascinating look into medieval monastic life: - Level 1: Includes the monastery church, monastic cells, a dining hall (refectory), a kitchen, and a crypt. - Level 2: A large natural recess housing a small chapel. - The Catacombs: Located nearby, these caves date back to the 5th–6th centuries, marking the area as one of the oldest Christian centers in the region.
