The Zahari Stoyanov House Museum is the birthplace of the revolutionary, writer and statesman in the village of Medven, Kotel municipality. The village is about 11 km south-east of Kotel and about 27 km north-east of Sliven. The museum belongs to the Kotel History Museum.
The house is a two-storey timber building in the Revival style of the area, preserved in its original form. The exhibition "History of the Village of Medven. Zahari Stoyanov in Bulgarian History and Culture" includes photographs and documents and his personal belongings — his trunk, his tailcoat and a copy of his personal seal.
Objects from the second half of the 19th century are also shown: shepherds’ clothes, a yamurluk cape and a vulia coat, and the knife of a Medven shepherd killed by the Ottomans. On display are editions of his "Notes on the Bulgarian Uprisings" and material on his work as a journalist.
Zahari Stoyanov was born in 1850 as Dzhendo Stoyanov Dzhedev, into a shepherd’s family. He studied at the church and class schools in Medven. He took part in the April Uprising and became its first historian, was the chief organiser of the Unification of 1885 and served as Speaker of the National Assembly. He died in Paris in 1889. The exhibition in the house opened on 6 May 1968.
