The Aleksandar Stamboliyski Birth House is a museum in the village of Slavovitsa, Septemvri municipality. The agrarian leader and Prime Minister of Bulgaria was born here in 1879.
The exhibition recreates the furnishings of a village house of the early 20th century. Original farming tools are on display.
The house is one of the three sites of the Aleksandar Stamboliyski museum. The other two are the villa museum, about 3 km from the village, and the ossuary monument.
Stamboliyski lived and worked in the villa, built in 1922. After the coup of 9 June 1923 he was taken there with his brother Vasil; both were tortured and killed by a group of IMRO members. In 2000 the villa burnt to the ground with many documents and objects, but it was rebuilt as it had been and is again a museum. Its outbuilding holds the exhibition on Stamboliyski’s life and work, and the inscription "St. 1923" that he wrote in his own blood. A new exhibition on the villa’s second floor opened in June 2023, 100 years after his death.
The ossuary holds the remains of Stamboliyski, his mother Katerina and his brother Vasil. All three sites have been cultural monuments of national importance since 1968.
Combine with: the villa museum and the ossuary — together the three sites tell the story of his whole life.
