Beglika is a reserve in the Western Rhodopes, on the Beglika plateau, 14 km south-west of Batak and 5 km south-east of Golyama Syutkya, the second-highest peak of the Rhodopes. It was declared on 11 May 1960 over 1,461 ha to protect its old spruce forest. It lies at 1,600–1,900 m and is exclusively state-owned.
The spruces are about 130 years old on average, and their trunks reach 80 cm across.
Among the large mammals are the brown bear, red deer and wolf, and among the birds the capercaillie.
You may enter the reserve only on marked paths. The most convenient is the Beglika eco-trail along its edge, where the alpine milk-vetch can also be seen. The Golyam Beglik reservoir and the Beglika area with its campsite are nearby. Winter here is long and snowy.

Beglika Reserve is best walked from May through October, when the trail is clear of snow and weather is generally stable. Summer middays can be hot at lower altitudes — start early. Winter walking requires proper gear and route knowledge.
Suitability depends on the specific route. Bulgarian trails range from paved family-friendly paths to multi-day high-mountain crossings. Check the length, elevation gain, and surface before setting off. Sturdy footwear, water, and a basic map (offline or paper) are essential even on short walks.
