The Neolithic Dwellings Museum in Stara Zagora is a world-class archaeological site and one of the 100 National Tourist Sites of Bulgaria. Established in 1979, it preserves the remains of two prehistoric houses dating back to the 6th millennium BC. These dwellings are considered the best-preserved and richest in inventory from this era in all of Europe. Architecture and Lifestyle The dwellings were two-story houses, standing at least 7 meters high, built using wooden poles interwoven with sticks and plastered with a mixture of clay and straw. - Interior: Each room was equipped with its own hearth, sleeping area, bread oven, and hand mills for grinding grain. - Inventory: Excavations uncovered 1,826 artifacts, including ceramic vessels, tables, spoons, sickles made of goat horns, and charred remains of wheat, barley, and lentils. Unique Masterpieces The permanent exhibition "Prehistoric Art in the Stara Zagora Region" showcases some of the most ancient artifacts on Earth: - The Oldest Marble Idol: A female figure representing the cult of the Mother Goddess and fertility. - Europe’s Oldest Tarabuka: A 7,000-year-old decorated musical instrument featuring signs remarkably similar to the Yin-Yang symbol. - The Prehistoric "Sphinx": A clay figure with a human head and an animal body, significantly older than the Great Sphinx of Giza.
