Historical Context and Fortification System - Era of Construction: The tower was erected during the last major reconstruction of the ancient city's fortification system after the middle of the 5th century. This was a period when an additional outer brick belt was attached to the existing fortress wall for greater strength against enemy attacks. - Strategic Location: It is situated around the middle of the northern fortress wall. At this exact spot, the wall turns in a southwestern direction, connecting directly with another triangular tower located at the key Western Gate of Serdica. Architectural and Structural Details - Shape and Layout: Architecturally, the tower has the shape of an almost equilateral triangle. Its outer sharp apex is strategically oriented to the north to cut through and deflect the frontal blows of siege machinery. - Construction Materials: The structure is built entirely of high-quality bricks, resting on a stable plinth of massive stone blocks.
