The Dimitar Dimov House Museum is the writer’s flat at 26 Krastyo Sarafov Street in Sofia’s Lozenets district. The author of "Tobacco" and "Doomed Souls" spent the last 12 years of his life here. It became a museum in 1969 and has been part of the National Literary Museum since 1976.
The flat keeps Dimov’s study and his laboratory — he was also a scientist, a veterinary surgeon and an anatomy lecturer. A documentary display follows his life and writing. The museum holds his archive: manuscripts, papers and material from his scientific work, a large photo archive, personal belongings and his chemistry, physics, radio and photographic equipment. His personal library of more than 3,000 volumes is preserved too.
Dimitar Dimov was born on 25 June 1909 in Lovech and grew up in his father’s house in Dupnitsa. His mother, Vesa Harizanova, was the daughter of Spas Harizanov from Vlahi near Kresna; Spas’s sister Milka was the mother of the revolutionary Yane Sandanski. All his life Dimov gathered material for a book about his famous relative, but never wrote it. His home became a museum five years after his death.
The museum is in a residential building and is run by the National Literary Museum; check its website for current opening hours before you go.
Combine with: in Sofia the National Literary Museum also runs the Ivan Vazov, Peyo Yavorov and Nikola Vaptsarov house museums.
