The trek from Ravnets Hut to Botev Peak is one of the most iconic and rewarding experiences in the Central Balkan Mountains, offering unparalleled views and a challenge for every hiker. Located in the Plovdiv region, this route is a true gem for lovers of high peaks and wild nature. The trail begins at Ravnets Hut, which can be reached by car or after a few hours' walk from Karlovo. From here, the path gradually gains elevation, passing through picturesque beech forests that transform into a kaleidoscope of colors in autumn. As you ascend, the forest belt gradually gives way to alpine meadows and open spaces, revealing panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and deep valleys. A key moment of the traverse is reaching the ridge, which leads directly to Botev Peak – the highest in the Balkan Mountains (2376 m). This part of the route is more exposed and windswept, requiring appropriate gear and attention to weather conditions. The view from the summit is breathtaking – a 360-degree panorama encompassing the endless folds of the Balkan range, the Rhodopes to the south, and even Rila and Pirin on clear days. A meteorological station is also located at the peak. The trek is of moderate to high difficulty, requiring good physical preparation and suitable hiking boots. It is advisable to start early in the morning, especially in summer, and always carry enough water and food. Regardless of the challenges, the experience of standing on the roof of the Balkan Mountains and enjoying the endless horizons is unforgettable and invigorating. This route is a must for anyone who wants to feel the grandeur of the Bulgarian mountains.
