The hike from Otoitsa Hut to Ivan Vazov Hut is one of the most picturesque high-mountain experiences in Rila, though often underestimated compared to more popular routes. This classic traverse leads you through the heart of Northwestern Rila, revealing breathtaking panoramas. The trail begins at the cozy Otoitsa Hut, nestled amidst ancient forests, and gradually ascends towards the alpine pastures. You'll pass through beautiful open areas before reaching the iconic cirque of the Seven Rila Lakes. Although the route doesn't pass directly by every lake, the views of them, especially from the higher sections, are absolutely captivating. You'll glimpse the Eye, the Tear, the Kidney – each reflecting the sky in its unique way. The traverse is moderate to difficult, requiring good physical preparation and appropriate gear. Exposed sections can be challenging in strong winds or bad weather, but the reward is expansive panoramas of the surrounding peaks and distant horizons. The end of the trek is Ivan Vazov Hut – one of the highest-located mountain shelters in Bulgaria.
