The Red Flat is a private museum on Ivan Denkoglu Street in central Sofia, devoted to everyday life in Bulgaria under communism (1944–1989). It opened on 8 April 2019 in a real flat where a family once lived, recreating the home of an ordinary family in the 1980s.
The flat has four recreated rooms with authentic furniture and objects from the period, plus a hall, a bathroom and a balcony.
The museum was set up as a hands-on experience rather than a display behind glass — visitors are invited to open cupboards and touch the objects.
The tour uses an audio guide in English, Spanish, Italian, French and Bulgarian and usually takes about an hour and a half. Check times and bookings on the museum’s website.
With children: everything can be touched, and the children’s room and dressing-up make it suitable for kids too.
The Red Flat is located in Sofia City, Bulgaria.
