Immerse yourself in the magic of nature and history along the Vazov Ecopath (blue marked) – one of the most picturesque and beloved routes in the Sofia region. Nestled in the heart of the Iskar Gorge, near Bov train station, this trail is a true gem for mountain hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers. The route is named after the great Bulgarian writer Ivan Vazov, who often drew inspiration from these very places. The trail, marked with a blue stripe, begins from Bov train station and winds gently uphill through beech forests, revealing breathtaking panoramic views of the majestic rock faces of the gorge and the blue meanders of the Iskar River. The main highlight of the route is the impressive Skaklya Waterfall – one of the highest in Bulgaria (over 120 meters), whose waters cascade down a sheer rock face, creating an unforgettable spectacle. Below the waterfall, you'll also find Vazov's House – a small shelter where the writer used to stay. The ecopath is of moderate difficulty and is suitable for a wide range of hikers, with the ascent to the waterfall taking approximately 1.5 to 2 hours one way. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for some steep sections. The best time to visit is spring, when the waterfall is at its fullest, and autumn, when the forest explodes in golden colors. Treat yourself to an unforgettable adventure amidst the wild beauty of the Balkan Mountains!
