Simeonovo - Aleko

The "Simeonovo - Aleko" trail is a classic among Sofia hikers and one of the most popular ways to escape the city bustle directly into the embrace of Vitosha Mountain. This picturesque trek offers both wonderful views and a true immersion in nature, just a stone's throw from the capital, making it an excellent choice for anyone seeking an accessible mountain adventure. The trailhead is located in Simeonovo quarter, easily accessible by public transport or car, where you can feel the last breath of the city before diving into the greenery. From here, you ascend a well-marked path that winds through dense forests, primarily beech and spruce. At certain points, the trail opens up, offering breathtaking panoramas of the Sofia Plain, Rila, and Stara Planina (Balkan Mountains) stretching in the distance. The path is predominantly uphill but with a moderate elevation gain, making it suitable for people of varying fitness levels, including families with older children.
