The route from Hristo Danovo village to Kozyata Stena hut is one of the most impressive experiences for any mountain lover in the heart of the Central Balkan. This picturesque trail offers a glimpse into the pristine nature of the Central Balkan National Park and will lead you to one of the most emblematic peaks of Stara Planina (Balkan Mountains). The hike begins from Hristo Danovo village, situated in a tranquil hollow. From here, the path gradually enters cool, ancient forests, following the course of mountain streams. The ascent is moderate to relatively steep in places, but every step is rewarded by increasingly opening views and fresh mountain air. You will pass through dense beech and coniferous forests, which are dotted with flowers in spring and painted in fiery hues in autumn. After a few hours of walking, the forest begins to thin out, revealing vast alpine meadows. From here, the path continues towards the Kozyata Stena shelter, and then to the peak itself. The final section towards Kozyata Stena is rocky and more exposed, requiring increased caution, but the panoramic view from the top is breathtaking. You will see the endless ridges of Stara Planina, neighboring peaks like Ambaritsa and Botev, and deep valleys. The route is of moderate to high difficulty and is suitable for well-prepared hikers with mountaineering experience. It is recommended to undertake it from late spring to early autumn, and you should always be equipped for rapid weather changes. This is an ideal opportunity to escape the city bustle and immerse yourself in the majestic beauty of Bulgarian nature, creating unforgettable memories.
